So people are starting to talk about April "Autism Awareness Month" on Facebook and other social networking sites. I'm tired of the same old thing, people calling autism an "epidemic" or a "tsunami". I'm tired of the inaccurate portrayal of autism on AoA, GR and Autism Speaks. People not living with autism hear these stories and/or associate the portrayal of autism in popular culture as what it is really like. Kathleen wrote a great piece on the myths of autism in motherhood.
So I'm going to call April "Autism Mythbusting Month". I want to hear about real autism from different people who have autism or are living with autism, the good, the bad, the ugly, you know, real life. Let's change the face of autism. Who will join me?

Most of my family posts are over at Detritus (kwombles.blogspot.com).

Great idea! I'll contribute via my blog.
Maybe we could write posts with "Autism Mythbusting Month" in the title, pass the idea around? For the month of April? I'm open to suggestions!
I know many excellent bloggers who are already blogging this every day. Maybe a way to connect them for the month?
